About Us

I found an injured or abandoned bird. What do I do?

Thank you for your concern for our local wildlife. San Diego Bird Alliance is not a licensed wildlife rehab facility and cannot care for injured wildlife. Please seek help from the resources below:

Did you find injured/orphaned wildlife? Do not attempt to care for the animal yourself. Do not give food or water, because it could cause further injury. Please keep the animal in a dark, quiet box or crate and bring to a wildlife drop-off location. Before capturing a wild animal, please review this information to ensure intervention is needed - San Diego Humane Society: Found Injured Wildlife.

Did you find an abandoned chick or fledgling? Not all young birds are abandoned - some are learning to fly and their parents are nearby. Find out when and how to intervene at this page by the Humane Society. Or use this handy flowchart by Mass Audubon.

Did you find an injured or abandoned duck or goose, or need to rehome your domestic duck or goose? Do not attempt to capture the animal yourself. Please contact Bear Ridge Ranch Duck and Waterfowl Rescue, who will travel anywhere in SD, Orange, LA, and Riverside Counties to do pick ups.
