Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary 13003 Wildcat Canyon Road Lakeside, CA 92040

Learn about butterflies and the native plants they depend upon, and make seed balls with Wings of Change! Today's activity will take place in three parts:

1st topic:
Seeds, natural chaparral habitat and discuss the threatened California Gnatcatcher and how we can help protect the species.

2nd topic:
The Monarch Butterflies are coming back to the Pacific Coast, we can talk about the different types of Milkweed and why the iconic Monarch needs it to survive. We will discuss how butterflies and the California Gnatcatcher can benefit from simple steps. We will be creating seed balls to specifically help the Monarch Butterfly, as well as up to 50 more pollinators. These butterflies then become nutrition for the birds, toads, lizards and then up the chain of life.

3rd topic:
Seed Ball Workshop Activity. Each participant will get 10 seed balls to take home.
