SAVE THE DATE: February 1, 2025 for Love Your Wetlands Day!
Love Your Wetlands Day is an opportunity to explore UC San Diego’s protected Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Mission Bay while also learning about the importance of coastal wetlands, the climate threats they face, and the ways local communities are working to restore and protect them.
Uniquely located in the densely populated urban area, Kendall-Frost Marsh is a valuable laboratory and popular component of the University of California’s Natural Reserve System, a library of ecosystems throughout California representing most of the state's major habitats. Much of Mission Bay was tidal wetlands until recently, and the ReWild Mission Bay project is working to restore this habitat - restoring Kendall-Frost Marsh to its former incredibly resilient and useful acreage.
Activities will take place throughout the day and are family-friendly:
- Guided marsh and kayak clean ups
- Guided birding
- Booths from environmental organizations
- Educational presentations by local scientists
- Speeches by elected officials, and cultural activities with Indigenous leaders
- Free coloring books about the amazing habitats of Mission Bay
- and more..
All activities are on a walk-in basis and included with general registration. Individual activity reservations are not needed.
Note: no dogs are allowed at the event.
