2024 BioBlitz Recap

2024 BioBlitz Volunteers at Kendall-Frost Marsh

In this year’s BioBlitz, we hosted events at 6 different locations with 5 running on the same day at the same time. Like in years past, we focus these events in the places where we’ve been restoring habitat with volunteers, like South Bay and other sites.

On April 27 from 9am to 11am, we hosted bioblitzes at: Emory Cove, Grand Caribe, Tijuana Slough in partnership with Fauna del Noroeste and San Diego Refuges (the first bilingual event of the BioBlitz), Sweetwater Bike Path, and Kendall-Frost Marsh.

On Sunday, April 28, we hosted another bioblitz at Famosa Slough, in partnership with Friends of Famosa Slough, from 10am to 12pm. These events are a great opportunity to explore and see how our restoration efforts have been working at these areas, also it is a way to invite volunteers back and see how much biodiversity is growing each year and a way to have fun and appreciate the beauty, so thanks to all their work.

This year, our project on iNaturalist was called SDAS 2024 SouthBay BioBlitz. As the results are still not set, people still have time to upload their observations from those days until May 5, but so far we have recorded a total of 1,198 observations, 313 species and 58 observers! The most observed species in this year’s BioBlitz was the Yellow-Crowned Night Heron, Alkali Heath, and California Brittlebush.

Check our iNaturalist project to see all the species we saw:

BioBlitz celebrating our 5th year!
