We have been privileged to receive a visit from Amarkhuu Gungaa, Executive Director and Ornithologist at the Mongolian Bird Conservation Center NGO, for the last few weeks!
Amarkhuu is a dedicated conservation biologist specializing in avian ecology, with a particular focus on research and conservation initiatives in Mongolia. Currently serving as the Executive Director and Ornithologist at the Mongolian Bird Conservation Center NGO, he is deeply committed to protecting the avian biodiversity of Mongolia.
In addition to his role at the MBCC, he is pursuing doctoral studies at Zhejiang Normal University in China, where his research is centered on the conservation efforts targeting the East Asian Dalmatian Pelican. His academic journey began with Bachelor's and Master's degrees focused on Saker Falcon conservation, providing him with a solid foundation in avian research and conservation.
Since 2007, his passion for avian conservation has been the driving force behind his active involvement in various projects aimed at studying and protecting bird species. Through his work, he aims to contribute to the preservation of Mongolia's rich avifauna and to inspire others to join in their efforts to safeguard the natural world for future generations.

"I recently had the privilege of spending three weeks with the San Diego Audubon Society, an experience that provided me with invaluable insights into their vital conservation activities. During my time here, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in various projects, including the Rewild Project, Dune Defender initiative, and Ridgway's Rail estimation survey.
Participating in these projects allowed me to gain firsthand experience in the effective strategies employed by the San Diego Audubon Society to conserve species and habitats. I witnessed the dedication and expertise of their team members and volunteers, and I was impressed by their successful engagement of the community in conservation efforts.
My time with the San Diego Audubon Society was not only educational but also deeply rewarding. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute, even in a short period, to their conservation work. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with organizations like the San Diego Audubon Society in our shared mission to protect and preserve our natural world."
We have learned so much from Amarkhuu as well. Of particular interest is the MBCC power line mitigation project. In Mongolia, they are facing a significant issue with dangerous distribution power lines, which pose a threat to wildlife, particularly Saker Falcons. They are working on mitigating the risks associated with these power lines, and have achieved incredible results!
