Collaborating to Protect Urban Birds with Tree Care for Birds

San Diego Audubon teams up with our friends with Tree Care for Birds to help co-host a professional training event for local arborists.

Last month we teamed up with our friends with Tree Care for Birds to help co-host a professional training event for the Professional Tree Care Association. Participants learned about best management practices to avoid impacting nesting birds, how to identify a diversity of nests, how to respond to injured wildlife, and more. The training was offered in both English and Spanish, with bird guides offered as prizes. Afterwards, a short birding walk around Balboa Park offered an opportunity to put these lessons into action.

Thank you to the volunteers that helped to organize and lead this training in both English and Spanish, including Lesley Handa, Jim Peugh, Ashley Jabron, Lissette Rios, Linda Mendez, Carlos Villalobos and Karina Ornelas. The trainees came away better prepared and inspired to protect birds and other wildlife while carrying out their tree care professions, and we got to spread the love of birding!
